“Do these programs really help?”

Read what some of our group participants had to say about their experience.
“ I felt comfortable in the group right away.  The members were  friendly and supportive and the group dynamics work well.  Being in this group has given me
courage to handle my (bipolar ) disorder.  My depression  has
become manageable, my
confidence is better and I feel better in  social situations.  I have definitely  benefited from this.  Thanks!”
“  I first started this group just two weeks after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder.  I had not accepted the reality of my diagnosis and didn’t know where to turn.  My psychiatrist mentioned this group to me and I called right away.  What a relief it has been to have others who truly       understand my illness!  I’m blessed to be part of a wonderful group that supports each other and listens without judging.  Thank you for offering this group!”
“  I am a 67 year old retired school teacher and case worker who has bipolar disorder.  Recently I experienced a year and a half long relapse.  The only focus in my life became attending a weekly support group sponsored by MHACV.  To write that this support has been invaluable is an understatement.  It gave me hope for recovery which I currently am experiencing.”
“When my daughter was diagnosed with schizophrenia I had no idea what that was or what it would mean for her or my family.  The MESA group taught me about the illness and also helped me learn skills so I can communicate better with my daughter, take time for myself and cope better.  I learned a lot from the other family members I met and felt very supported. Learning about community resources has helped a lot, too.  Thanks you so much!”
